Where does the “15 hours of free training” come from?
You may have come across the post: “Anthropic just released an official, free 15-hour course to learn how to use Claude.” It was shared widely, and it deserves a fact check.
The reality behind the number: Anthropic Academy, Anthropic's official course platform, opened in early 2026 and hosted on Skilljar. An account is all you need, no credit card. Every completed course earns a completion certificate. And the catalog grows with each product release: I count 20 courses as of July 31, 2026.
The 15 hours don't match any particular course. Anthropic doesn't even show durations in its catalog: the figure is the estimated total for the whole catalog, repeated from post to post. It's plausible, but nobody will take all 20 courses, and nobody needs to. The real question: which ones are worth your time?
The Anthropic Academy catalog: family by family
I went through the catalog to prepare my own workshops. It's organized into 4 families, and the table below shows the full catalog as it stood on July 31, 2026: 20 courses, plus a track dedicated to elementary and secondary school teachers.
| Course | Family | What you learn | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude 101 | Getting started | Getting started with the assistant: conversations, projects, basic habits | Everyone; the first course to take |
| Claude Code 101 | Getting started | The basics of Claude Code, the natural-language development tool | Beginners drawn to the technical path |
| Claude Platform 101 | Getting started | An overview of the Claude platform and its building blocks | Decision-makers, project managers |
| Introduction to Claude Cowork | Getting started | The task loop, skills and plugins, the Chrome and Microsoft 365 integrations, team security | Non-technical people; my top pick for marketing and communications |
| AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations | Framework | A method for collaborating with AI, independent of the tool | Everyone; the most valuable course in the catalog in my view |
| AI Fluency for students | Framework | The AI Fluency framework adapted for students | Students |
| AI Fluency for educators | Framework | The version for higher education and secondary school teachers | Teachers |
| Teaching AI Fluency | Framework | Passing the AI Fluency framework on to others | Trainers, internal AI leads |
| AI Fluency for pK-12 Educators | Framework | The track dedicated to elementary and secondary schools (2 courses) | pK-12 teachers |
| AI Fluency for nonprofits | Framework | The version for nonprofits | Nonprofit sector |
| AI Fluency for Small Businesses | Framework | The version for small businesses | Small businesses and freelancers |
| AI Fluency for Builders | Framework | The version for people who build products with AI | Makers, product builders |

| AI Capabilities and Limitations | Agentic | What models can do, and where they fail | Anyone deploying AI |
| Building with the Claude API | Technical | Building applications with the Claude API | Developers |
| Introduction to Model Context Protocol | Technical | Connecting Claude to external tools through the MCP protocol | Developers |
| Model Context Protocol: Advanced Topics | Technical | Advanced uses of the MCP protocol | Experienced developers |
| Claude with Amazon Bedrock | Technical | Deploying Claude through Amazon Bedrock | AWS cloud teams |
| Claude on Google Cloud | Technical | Deploying Claude on Google Cloud | Google Cloud teams |
The descriptions of the AI Fluency variants and the technical courses are inferred from their titles; I checked the syllabus of the Cowork course in detail, as it's the most relevant one for my audience.
The production is polished, the content matches the actual product, and it's maintained by the people who build the tool. That's the great strength of this official Claude training: it doesn't age, unlike many of the third-party courses I listed in my market review, where sales pages still cite Claude versions retired several quarters ago.
What they're worth: my picks as a trainer
3 courses are enough for marketing and communications people, in this order.
Claude 101 first: getting started with the assistant, projects, good conversation habits. Introduction to Claude Cowork next: 4 sections that go from discovery to team sharing, by way of skills and the Chrome and Microsoft 365 integrations. It's the most useful course in the catalog for non-technical people, and I explain how to get started with Cowork in a dedicated article. AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations last: the only course about a method for collaborating with AI, where every other course is about the product. It's the one I recommend most to companies.
The rest depends on your profile. The agentic and technical families are solid, but they're for people who build systems, which most marketing teams don't need to do themselves. And if the Claude Code path appeals to you, my complete path to learning Claude Code maps out learning by project.
2 limits deserve an honest mention. Everything is in English, with no exception so far: for a French team, that's often a deal-breaker. And everything is product-focused: you'll learn what Claude does, and nothing about applying it to your marketing plan, your brand guidelines, your processes. That adaptation work is still all ahead of you when the courses end.

What comes after the official courses?
Anthropic's certificates show that you took the courses. They don't change the way you work yet. The next step is applying them to your job: setting Claude up for your brand, producing your first deliverables, encoding your methods into skills.
That's exactly the gap my free course fills in French for marketing and communications people, and the one I detail in the complete path to learning Claude: the basics in 2 hours, then a real project, like building a website with Claude Code, then skills shared across the team.
Conclusion
Take the Anthropic Academy courses: they're free, up to date and made by the source. Pick Claude 101, Introduction to Claude Cowork and AI Fluency if English works for you. And keep in mind that the certificate marks the start of the work: the value lies in applying it to your job, in French, on your real files.
