Where do these 58 use cases come from?
This catalog is my working document. I built it by testing Claude Cowork on real office tasks, one area at a time, and I keep it as a reference for my workshops. One detail says a lot about the tool: the original spreadsheet was produced with Cowork itself.
2 caveats before you start. The time savings are rough estimates, an order of magnitude to help you prioritize your cases: the theoretical total for the 58 cases comes close to 96 hours, and your own savings will depend on your files. And every sample prompt is a starting point to adapt with your own context and constraints.
If you're new to the tool, start with my Claude Cowork tutorial: what it can do, the official course, and your first 3 tasks. This article is the logical next step: the full catalog to pick from.

What Cowork won't do and what to watch for
Knowing the limits saves you from nasty surprises. My tests confirmed the points below, and they match Anthropic's documentation.
What the tool doesn't do. It only sees the folders you have explicitly connected; the rest of your drive is out of reach. It produces the files directly, without driving your software on screen. Deleting is never silent: it goes through your approval. Emails are prepared as drafts, and sending them stays in your hands. And it can't reach your screen, your open applications or a private intranet.
What to watch for. The files it works on are snapshots: changes you make later don't flow back on their own. Transfers happen in capped batches. Connectors (Gmail, Drive, Notion, Canva) require explicit authorization. And on a sensitive calculation, check the numbers before you reuse them: that's as true of Cowork as of any AI.
A folder shared with an AI is still data processing: for the full GDPR framework, my article on AI and customer data details what the law requires.
Getting started: the 8-step progression
The order I recommend, from your first try to automation.
- Connect a dedicated working folder.
- Start with a simple request: “take inventory of this folder”.
- Give the context and what the deliverable is for, and leave the step-by-step to Claude.
- Provide an example of what you expect: a template beats a description.
- Iterate: the first draft is a starting point.
- Have the final file saved back to your folder.
- Have it remember your conventions for future sessions.
- Automate whatever recurs every week.
These 8 steps sum up what I set up in my workshops. The guided version, with the videos and the set of 20 prompts, is in the free course, and the full path to build your skills is in my guide to learning Claude.
Conclusion
58 use cases make a catalog to pick from. Choose the 3 that match your actual weekly chores, test them with the sample prompts, and keep what holds up. That's how Cowork goes from gadget to habit.
